Anxiety Lies & Scripture Truth Worksheet

How to Use This Worksheet

The Bible teaches that real change begins in the mind (Romans 12:2). Renewal does not happen by passively wishing thoughts away—it happens when truth replaces lies.

If you’ve been fighting anxiety for years, you might be thinking, “I’ve tried affirmations. I’ve tried Scripture. Why would this be different?” Here’s why: You’re not trying to generate positive feelings or convince yourself of something that isn’t true. You’re simply choosing to let God’s truth be louder than anxiety’s lies—even when you don’t feel it yet.

Anxiety grows when fearful thoughts go unchallenged. Healing begins when God’s truth is spoken out loud, repeatedly and intentionally.

Why speaking Scripture aloud matters: When you verbalize truth, you engage your attention, your emotions, and your body. Over time, repeating truth helps retrain your brain to recognize safety, hope, and trust instead of fear. This isn’t magical thinking—it’s how God designed your mind to work.

This practice takes patience and consistency, but you don’t have to do it perfectly. You are not trying to force feelings to change—you are choosing to let God’s Word lead your thoughts, even when feelings lag behind.

Start small. Pick just one or two lies that feel most relevant today. Read each lie. Then speak the Scripture-based affirmation out loud, even if it feels awkward or you don’t fully believe it yet. That’s okay. You’re planting seeds, not demanding instant harvest.

Repetition is part of the healing process—not a sign that it’s not working.

10 Common Anxiety Lies and Scripture Truths

1. Anxiety Lie:

“Something is wrong with me. I might be sick or broken.”

Scripture Truth: Psalm 139:14

Affirmation to Speak: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. My body and mind are God’s workmanship, not a mistake.

2. Anxiety Lie:

“I am not safe. Something bad is about to happen.”

Scripture Truth: Isaiah 41:10

Affirmation to Speak: God is with me. He strengthens me and upholds me. I am not facing this alone.

3. Anxiety Lie:

“If I don’t worry, things will fall apart.”

Scripture Truth: Philippians 4:6–7

Affirmation to Speak: I can bring this to God in prayer instead of spinning in worry. His peace is available to me right now, guarding my heart and mind.

4. Anxiety Lie:

“I have to figure everything out right now.”

Scripture Truth: Matthew 6:34

Affirmation to Speak: I have enough grace for today. Tomorrow has not arrived, and I don’t need to solve it right now.

5. Anxiety Lie:

“My fear means I’m weak or failing.”

Scripture Truth: Psalm 56:3

Affirmation to Speak: When I feel afraid, I choose to trust God. Fear does not disqualify my faith.

6. Anxiety Lie:

“These thoughts will never stop.”

Scripture Truth: Psalm 94:19

Affirmation to Speak: These racing thoughts feel endless, but God can bring comfort and calm even in this chaos. My mind can be steadied.

7. Anxiety Lie:

“I can’t trust myself or my mind.”

Scripture Truth: 2 Timothy 1:7

Affirmation to Speak: God has given me a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. My anxious thoughts don’t mean I’ve lost control or that something is fundamentally wrong with me.

8. Anxiety Lie:

“Peace depends on my circumstances changing.”

Scripture Truth: John 14:27

Affirmation to Speak: Jesus has given me His peace. My peace does not depend on circumstances.

9. Anxiety Lie:

“This is too small or insignificant to bring to God.”

Scripture Truth: 1 Peter 5:7

Affirmation to Speak: God cares about me deeply. I can bring every concern to Him—nothing is too small.

10. Anxiety Lie:

“Something could separate me from God’s love.”

Scripture Truth: Romans 8:38–39

Affirmation to Speak: Nothing can separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus—not my anxiety, not my doubts, not my worst moments.

When This Feels Impossible

If you’re thinking: “I said these words and still feel anxious”—that’s normal. You’re not doing it wrong. Feelings often follow truth slowly. Keep going.

If you’re thinking: “I’m too tired to do this today”—pick just ONE lie and ONE truth. Say it once. That’s enough for today.

If you’re thinking: “This feels fake or forced”—you’re being honest, and that’s good. You don’t have to feel it for it to be true. You’re simply choosing to give God’s Word a voice in your mind.

If you’re thinking: “I’ve been doing this and I’m not better yet”—healing is rarely linear. Some days will feel harder than others. The fact that you’re still showing up matters more than you know.

Reflection (Optional—No Wrong Answers)

Take a moment if you’d like:

  • Which lie feels most familiar to you right now?
  • Which Scripture truth felt hardest to believe or say out loud today? (That’s often the one you need most)
  • If you could only remember one truth this week, which would help you most?
  • Is there someone you could share this practice with—not to fix them, but to not do it alone?

A Word Before You Go

Feelings can be powerful, but they are not final. God’s Word is steady, trustworthy, and alive. Each time you speak truth—even uncertainly, even tiredly—you are choosing alignment with what God says is real, not what anxiety says is real.

You are not trying to become someone who never feels anxious. You are becoming someone who knows what to do when anxiety speaks.

Progress often comes quietly, one repeated truth at a time. You might not see it today, but you are doing something significant every time you choose truth over the lie.

This week: Keep this sheet somewhere accessible—your nightstand, your car, your phone. When anxiety spikes, you’ll know where to find your next step.

You’re not in this alone.
